【Product Description】 An isoquinoline alkaloid. Molecular formula 【C20H18NO4】+. Also known as berberine. It is found in many plants of 4 families and 10 genera such as Berberis. Yellow acicular crystals of berberine can be precipitated from the ether. Melting point 145℃. Soluble in water, insoluble in benzene, ether and chloroform. Berberine is a quaternary ammonium alkaloid, and the solubility of its salts in water is relatively small, such as 1∶500 for hydrochloride and 1∶30 for sulfate. Berberine crystals precipitated from water or dilute ethanol with 5.5 molecular crystalline water; If crystalline from chloroform, acetone, or benzene, the corresponding crystalline solvent molecules are also present.
